Let me set the stage for this one: A 6km long obstacle course through mud holes and up a ski hill. The weather? Sunny. Arid, in fact, and close to 35 degrees Celsius (that's 95F for those of you stuck in the past, or the United States) plus humidity.
I wasn't going to be running in this event, but my brother-in-law and his girlfriend were! I just happened to tag along with my camera to document some good old fashioned muddy fun!
These ladies asked me for a quick portrait at the starting line, before they got muddy.
And boy, do you ever get muddy. Enjoy that lovely dirt soup!
The waterslide into another pool of muck. Luckily, the water served to cool you off after you climbed a ski hill and jogged back down.
Running over cars....
and to the finish!
I mean, you just ran 6k in mud, I think it's worth celebrating.
From a photography standpoint, I really struggled with some of these shots since my 70-200 lens was being an absolute pig all day. It would rack out to 10m and then wouldn't focus on anything closer. The only way I got it to autofocus was if I turned the focus ring to a point closer than my subject. I'm not sure what was causing it, but I will have to look into it.
